Product Overview
Pumpkin seed oil is a plant oil extracted from pumpkin seeds, intended for consumption.
Pumpkin seeds contain 65%–70% oil, the highest among all woody oilseeds, earning it the reputation of a "tree oil reserve." By using modern extraction techniques, this new generation of pumpkin seed oil is produced. It is made from high-quality pumpkin seeds and processed using internationally advanced methods. On the global market, pumpkin seed oil is often referred to as "Eastern Olive Oil," highly favored by consumers just like olive oil.
Pumpkin Seed Oil Production Processes
Main production methods include: cold pressing, solvent extraction, and supercritical fluid extraction.
- Cold Pressing
Cold pressing is done at temperatures not exceeding 60°C, producing a golden-yellow oil. This method preserves natural components well, retaining the plant's original flavor and nutritional value. It uses a six-step process to remove wax, fat, gums, acids, odors, and color, filtering out harmful substances.
- Hot Pressing
An improved hot pressing method involves pre-roasting pumpkin seeds at around 80°C to 80% doneness, with moisture controlled below 6%, followed by pressing. This method ensures a good oil yield while retaining the unique aroma of pumpkin seed oil.
- Enzyme Extraction
Using enzyme extraction involves four key factors: enzyme hydrolysis temperature, enzyme amount, hydrolysis time, and pH. Temperature is the main factor, followed by pH, hydrolysis time, and enzyme amount. Optimal conditions for extracting pumpkin seed oil are a hydrolysis temperature of 55°C, pH 6, hydrolysis time of 3 hours, and enzyme amount of 0.8%. Under these conditions, the oil yield can reach 40.6%, with an acid value of 1.84 mg/g, meeting national health standards.
Benefits and Uses of Pumpkin Seed Oil
Pumpkin seed oil contains ten types of fatty acids, with unsaturated fatty acids making up 90%. The fatty acid composition includes 16.59% oleic acid, 39.53% linoleic acid, and other components such as caproic acid, caprylic acid, palmitoleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, arachidic acid, and behenic acid.

Plant Source - Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata (Duchesne ex Lam.) Duchesne ex Poir.) is a one-year vine herb in the gourd family. It features jointed stems, sturdy petioles, and oval or elliptical leaves. The fruit has a thick stem with ribs and grooves, varying by variety, and a rough exterior. The seeds are numerous, oval or elongated, and the flowers are generally yellow or deep orange, with a diamond shape. Flowering occurs from June to July, with fruiting from July to August. Native to southern Asia and Central and South America, pumpkins are widely cultivated around the world. They were introduced to China during the Ming Dynasty and are now grown extensively throughout the country. Pumpkins prefer warm, short-day conditions, are drought-resistant, and thrive in fertile, neutral, or slightly acidic sandy loam. They can be propagated by seeding or grafting, with seeding being the primary method. Pumpkin seeds are harvested in the fall from mature fruit, cleaned, and dried.
